Traveling Ventilation Systems
A Traveling ventilation system is a method to provide the high quality working environment to a crane operator. With the air handler unit located remote from the crane, the system uses clean air from outside the building and provides pressurized, temperature controlled, filtered outdoor air to the crane cab.
The system is the positive method to air condition overhead crane cabs where extreme heat or fume conditions exist. This system makes it possible to create comfort and hygienic conditions in a crane cab regardless of the heat and air contaminants present outside the cab. No other system offers a fresh temperature controlled air supply to overhead crane cabs.
The system is designed for application in abrasive plants, lead, copper and aluminum smelters, coke ovens, carbon graphite, foundries, and steel mills.
Fresh Air Supply for Crane Cabs is an economical fixture that can be used where high temperature atmospheres are not a problem. If the working environment is not very hot, it is often possible to create reasonable operator comfort during the summer simply by pressurizing a crane cab with filtered outside air. Then, all the system needs is to include an air handler unit equipped with a fan and a filter. There is no air-conditioning equipment to maintain. During wintertime, the duct heater, in combination with a cab heater can provide the crane driver with the same comfortable conditions he/she enjoyed during the summer. As an added benefit the same system can be used to pressurize stationary pulpits and crane electrical panels keeping them free from dust and contaminants.

How it works
With the air handler unit located remote from the crane, the system uses clean air from outside the building. The fresh air is filtered, cooled or heated as required. Then it is supplied under pressure to a modular duct system called Supply Duct, which parallels the crane runway and conveys the conditioned air. As the crane travels along the bay, it pulls a trolley, which opens and closes the flexible seal and releases a constant volume of fresh air into the crane ducting to pressurize the crane cab and electrical panels.
What it does
The Traveling ventilation system is designed to meet the highest air quality requirements for crane cabs working under the most adverse industrial conditions of heat, particles, gases and vapors. By pressurizing the cab with 100% outside air, the system provides the highest quality air for the crane operator regardless of the air contamination present outside his cab. With filtration, heating and cooling, the system provides positive pressure temperature controlled filtered air year round.
Where industrial fume and heat conditions are too tough for cab mounted equipment the Traveling ventilation system provides the positive answer 24 hour per day, throughout the year. Tests carried out in actual plant installations have proven this system extremely successful in eliminating above level readings in cabs for such difficult contaminants as carbon monoxide and sulphur dioxide.
Air can be ducted to bridge to pressurize crane electrical panel. Crane control delays, which were due to high heat and dust loading in the control cabinets and control rooms, would be eliminated.
